Have you ever wished you could fall asleep at any time and anywhere? You should be able to do just that with this method, which is said to have come from the United States Army. When used frequently, it should allow you to fall asleep within two minutes of closing your eyes.
The book Relax and Win was the first to describe the method: Lloyd Bud Winter’s Championship Performance, first published in 1981. In a TikTok video that has been viewed more than 7.2 million times, fitness coach Justin Agustin demonstrates the method and has more than 1.7 million TikTok followers.
Agustin, who is shown lying on a bed, stated, “First, you need to calm your body and systematically relax and shut down every part of your body from head to toe, literally.”
“First, let the muscles in your forehead relax. Focus on your breathing as you relax your jaw, cheeks, and eyes. “Now, go all the way down to your neck and shoulders,” he continued. Check to see that your shoulders are not tense. Keep your arms at your sides, including your hands and fingers, and drop them as low as you can.
After that, you should feel a warm, tingly sensation radiating from your scalp to your fingertips. “Relaxing your chest, your stomach, down to your thighs, knees, legs, and feet,” he advised, begin taking deep breaths. Recreate the warm sensation, this time spreading from your heart to your toes.
Agustino continued, “Now while you’re doing this, it’s really important to clear your mind of any stresses,” and he suggested two scenarios: laying in a black velvet hammock in a room that is completely dark or in a canoe that is only surrounded by clear lake water.
He wants you to repeat these words for ten seconds whenever you become distracted: Don’t ponder. Don’t ponder. Avoid thinking.”
Agustino claims that you should be able to fall asleep within two minutes of closing your eyes if you practice this every night for six weeks.
Even though there are no studies to prove that this method actually works, it sounds like a great way to meditate at night to help you sleep better.
